Excellent tool but can use some "quality of life" improvements. I’ll be real — when I first pulled it out of the box I thought it was neat how small and lightweight it is, almost like a credit card you can stick to your phone. It feels solid, and the little display makes it easy to see status and battery without fumbling around in an app. I paired it with the companion mobile app and set it up to start recording right away, which honestly was way simpler than I expected. The idea of not having to manually type notes in a meeting and just letting it handle transcribing sounded great to me, so I dove right in.In real use, the recording part mostly works — it picks up my voice and others around the table, and later I can open the app and see a full transcript and summary of what was said. That part feels like the biggest time saver for me because I can skim the important sections instead of listening to everything from start to finish. I’ve used it in conference calls and in person, and it seems to switch between modes without me having to do much. That said, it isn’t perfect. Sometimes the audio that it captures doesn’t sound as clear as I hoped when I play back the recordings — there’s a bit of crackle or odd distortion if people aren’t right next to it. It’s still smart enough that the transcripts make sense most of the time, but for playback clarity I was a bit disappointed compared to what my phone does on its own. Other times the device doesn’t quite catch both sides of a conversation perfectly, which means I’ve had to rely on context in the app rather than the raw audio.Another thing I noticed is that getting the best summaries sometimes takes a few tries in the app — you kind of learn how to mark highlights during the conversation so the AI knows what to focus on later. That took a bit of practice, and early on I wasn’t sure whether the highlights were making a real difference, but after a few meetings it did seem to pull out clearer action items and key points.Overall, I enjoy having it with me and I use it more than I thought I would. It’s helpful for freeing me from obsessively taking notes so I can actually pay attention and engage in the discussion. The transcription and summary part is pretty cool once you get the hang of the workflow. The recording quality isn’t always great, but the convenience factor keeps me using it daily. If you want something to capture conversations and give you organized text you can work with afterward, this thing does the job well enough for me — just don’t expect perfect audio playback all the time.
Buy it. Seriously. Just buy it. I have tested about a dozen different AI voice recorders, and this one is clearly the winner - by far.Starting out with security, you can trust that some foreign government or corporation isn't spying on your transcripts to suck up proprietary information and use it for purposes unknown. If you're not the paranoid type, Plaud is the Apple of AI transcription: It just works. Again, I have tried many transcription devices and services, and while this uses some of the same AI (ChatGPT, for instance) the results are superior with this device. Probably because the microphone is better. One of my biggest gripes with AI recorders like this is that sometimes it's hard to tell that you're actually recording, and if so, in which mode. Adding an easy read and easy-to-understand display that tells you not that you're recording but what your battery level is in actual percentage points propels this device to another level.Yes, you have to pay a bit for the extra bells and whistles, but trust me that they are worth it. Record a meeting or lecture or two in freebie mode, and you'll see what I mean. This device not only transcribes, but it analyzes and summarizes the important points of any given recording with eery accuracy.Whether you're a student or a professional, this device is a game-changer. Buy it now and thank me later!
